St Martin’s is a Voluntary Aided Church of England Primary School.  Its Governing Board is appointed by the Local Authority and by the Salisbury Diocesan Board of Education (SDBE) to work on behalf of the children’s parents and carers, and of the local community, in three principal areas:

• The vision, ethos, and strategic direction of the school
• The educational performance of the school
• The financial performance of the school

It does this by working closely with the Headteacher who is responsible for the day to day running of the school. 

At St Martin’s, an Interim Board established in September 2020 gradually transitioned to a Full Board for this academic year, 2022/23, to continue supporting, challenging and encouraging the school’s improvement. 

The Full Board consists of the Headteacher, members of the local church (Foundation Governors), Parents (elected by parents), Teachers, Co-opted Governors, and a Local Authority Governor.  Associate Governors may also be appointed for special projects. 

The Full Board meets at least 6 times per year and between these meetings its members visit school to monitor specific areas such as safeguarding, the curriculum, special educational needs, the budget, the school’s spiritual development.
